The Mcgill Tribune

The Dunes. Socializing w/Life.
After re-mastering and re-working Socializing w/Life, this Toronto based-band was finally up to sending their masterpiece into open waters. The Dunes' debut album is a staggeringly original piece of work. While their sound can easily be compared to the Coldplay/Bends-era Radiohead compositional school, their debut album stretches beyond the confines of contemporary pop songwriting, boasting a lovely intermingling of jazz, blues, country and rock. Its soft ballads are surprisingly distinguished from one another and make a lasting impression on the listener. The lyrics are pretty abstract, but formulated in a way that leaves the songs up to the listener's interpretation, enabling him or her to identify with each track. The Dunes seem at ease abandoning traditional structures, both in individual songs and in an entire album, and this works to their advantage. This record and group is as good as Calories chocolate cheesecake; it's worth its weight in gold.

WOW!what a great weekend.....so heres the rundown friday was down at the labels office and got to check out the video we made and uh i think its pretty cool no cheese to speak of at all it will be posted on our myspace this week sometime check it out!
So the interweb what a cool thing indeed and the whole myspace phenomenon ive been "friending" people as i do to you know spread the good word of the dunes one such person was this guy named Mark Plati...anyhow i get a message from him saying "calling all cars...fantastic" so im like cool its always nice to hear somebody digs your music i then get another message from him saying listen im gonna be in t.o. for a day or so would you like to meet for a music chat......now understand this Mark Plati produced David Bowie's last three records has also worked with the Talking Heads Prince the list is quite extensive and he wants to talk music with me?....so fuck i say yeah he was here from new york talking with a few labels etc so we met at the cameron house with his buddy tom from joydrop and several other kick ass bands and shot the shit about music and he says he really likes us and wants to know if maybe we can work together in the future...how cool is that such a great guy really interesting chat so when we go to the states at the end of the month were gonna drop by his studio in the east village and maybe record a song or 2....im pretty stoked!
After the meeting me and me friend went over to rancho relaxo to check out silent seymour who brought down the house there witha b-lazing set as i drank jagers to almost black out!
Saturday night was over at some old friends home in east york for a great dinner and some great wine fuelled conversations if all my weekends could be as good i would be a truly happy camper thats all then time to start the week.

ok right so that crazy massacre in montreal was fucking terrible and my heart goes out to everybody who got hurt either directly or indirectly by this catastrophe truly!
i go to ask is just me or is the fucking media a bunch of fuckballs i mean holy fuck!
top story tonight" goths and goth culture are they and is it a ticking bomb?" You have to be kidding me......whats with all this looking for answers bullshit and looking to blame or draw atttention towards possible causes...for christ sake what happened here is a result of a super mentally unstable person end of story! Think about it this shit happens far to often theses days i know this but they have been happening forever! and unfortunately they probably will .... see this for what it is for lack of a better term a crack pot melted down and being the selfish evil coward that he was killed people for his own truly sick perverted reasons...reasons which we will never know because we werent him... theres no way to stop these people i think mostly cause ...uh .....well ...we cant read minds...right?oh yeah and fuck him!

In other news i wonder how the new leafs coach is gonna be?i got a good feeling.

I had/we had a really good time at the rogers centre on saturday that was really alot of fun and really great exposure we were able to get a few children sponsored aswell which was really cool...i really like the open air sort of shows where the audience is for lack of a better term is the "status quo" we had some really good feedback i think the idea atthis point in time is to just get the name and the music out there, for now we have a few weeks off which will for me at least welcomed a little down time is always good to work on some stuff that i simply havent had time to finish visit some friends and spend a little more time with my lady friend..im really pumped to see how the video's gonna turn out i guess we will find out in a week or so fingers crossed

mmmmm what else is going on? oh yeah i caught a fish awhile back(below) it put up a hell of a fight..what a beauty though huh?

All done.....we shot our video for "do it all the time" yesterday our first video at that and overall i think we all agree it was a really cool experience.....reasons for this include the great people we had working with us and guiding us through the process they made us feel very relaxed and with that i think we delivered some pretty tidy performances (but what do i know really?) ...i would personally like to thank "The Bossy Girls" my future ex wives for all the pampering and perspiration removal we are in love and there will be a wedding...so now we wait together and in a week or two you all will get to see the final copy as will we here on our mypace and then with any luck blasting out t.v.'s around the world giddy up!

something?

guess i feel like talking today...spinning head and tooth decay
cant tell you how to feel...rushing through you and me is the second hand..do you realize
type type type think think think
so small are the complaints so big is the prize or is it?
fuck nose fuck you and fuck it
settle now punchy the kettle is boiling
the skys not falling
driving...just cause yeah just cause why not
those evil natured robots they say
answers? who has em? who has the fucking answers?
so here we are again and im sick of dancing with my hand on your back not on your ass

U p and down and up and down and up and down yeah lifes full of them its generally a bumpy road and were all just trying the best we can and sometimes we have to do things that we may not want to do in order to get to where were going...im a big believer in following my heart or just my gut feeling...for its these instincts at the end of the day that guide us and should never be ignored...you would think life would get easier after awhile wouldnt you? simply not the case theres always a new challenge to overcome someone or something fucking up your shit to them i say bring it .... i have worked to hard and too long to just lay down and let things happen and clearly that sort of attitude gets you nowhere the future is now i intend to tackle it head on and make it mine...i have a dream

A lake in every direction aug 25th/06

I saw a star last night after i bashed my nail to bits
in this mis-shapen poorly drawn vacuum of a town i punished regret and wore a frown
but just for a little while
pushing forward we emptied the bottles and talked some lies
with truth all around we sang played and entertained...ideas of fleshful fantasies at least i did
the girl with the broken foot
i wonder
i wonder
oh yes...its on but it wont work
two different shapes...besides cocaine is the only thing that can make me shapeshift
lunch!
and red ceasers
"theres a lake in every direction"

Lloyds place aug 29th /06

Lloyds place 18 clicks down the road
"not your average dirty city hostel"
show us around lloyd
35 years you say
18 clicks down the road...but so faraway
"im going to paint now"
"ok...im going to look around"
sit in the chair and drive the bus
the light coming through the cracked window is a photo
clicks
"go over there and let me get a shot of both of you"
"these guys like to take pictures...im sure they will take yours"
so peaceful now
coming here my whole life just to get here now
lloyds place 18 clicks down the road
click

yeah im certain im meant to be on the road i just feel good there
